Abstract
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of an estradiol 1 mg/drospirenone 2 mg regimen on changes in blood coagulation factors in Korean postmenopausal women. Methods: This was a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study over four 28-day treatment cycles. The changes in weight, blood pressure, pulse rate and prothrombin time (PT)/activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) were evaluated at outpatient clinics¡¯ follow-up. A total of 158 subjects were screened and 90 women were randomized into two treatment groups. Results: The baseline results of PT/aPTT in both group were similar (study group: 13.18¡¾0.853 and 33.08¡¾4.794 (sec); control group 13.25¡¾0.568 and 34.87¡¾5.346 (sec)). The changes in PT from baseline were 0.08¡¾0.846 (sec) in study group and -0.02¡¾0.390 (sec) in placebo group at follow-up, with no significant differences. The changes in aPTT from baseline to the follow-up did not showed any differences between the study and control groups (-2.15¡¾2.214 vs -1.75¡¾3.464). Conclusion: Postmenopausal women treated with an estradiol 1 mg/drospirenone 2 mg regimen showed no effect on the changes of blood coagulation factors.
